buying/ selling a second hand wedding dress

Hi there

Hoping for a bit of advice on selling my wedding dress from anyone who has bought or sold a second hand wedding dress online.

My dress is by White Rose, cost around £950 new and I managed to keep it in great condition (no marks). I have had it cleaned and boxed. I bought the dress end of 2010 so its a current style (strapless & lace so quite 'on-trend'!). So I am really hoping to get a decent sum for it (£500+)!!

Is ebay the best way or should I look at Preloved/ other sites?
What are the things that you like to see in a listing?
What makes a listing bad? (so I can avoid!)
Should I offer to send the dress or ask for 'buyer collects' only? I imagine most would want to come try it on but this limits who I can sell to.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Fran

personally i would try and sell it to a friend..

have you thought of ringing around some dress shops to see if you could sell it too them

make sure that you listing is clear with as many details put in as you can. Ensure the sizes and measurements are all correct and a photo can make or break a listing!!!! Remember to offer the people a chance to contact you for more pictures or any other information they may want it may also be handy to give your measurements and say how it fitted on you

I would offer to post it but make sure you are charging the right amount weigh it properly and then add some more for the packaging

if possible add a link to the designers website so they can look at the dress sizes and details etc

i would then try pre loved https://www.sellmyweddingdress.com friday free ads https://www.adoos.co.uk https://www.thedressmarket.net https://www.yourweddingshop.co.uk https://www.gumtree.co.uk as all of these are free to list on there are more but they will cost you to put your dress on there so try them next

Also try your local area, are there any notice boards at schools and community centres you can put an ad up for free? or shop windows that will only charge a little to put up an ad

only after i had failed on all these places then i would try ebay i would start it low and have a reserve on for the lowest price that you would want for it in the listing i would offer (if you are happy to ) for people to try the dress on at your home (please be safe if you do and make sure at least 1 other person is there and that you tell someone in another location about who and when someone is comming)

    good luck
The only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 5

There has been another thread recently about selling a second hand dress and like I said to them your best option with ebay would be to wait for free listing weekend then it won't cost you anything (apart from final value fees if it sells), you can put the starting price at the minimum you would like for it, if it doesn't sell you haven't lost anything :D

But I do think to be honest you would be very lucky to get that amount back on it, unfortunately secondhand dresses really don't seem to sell for much. :(

However you sell it online you will need good photos and I would suggest trying to borrow a correctly-sized dressmaker's mannequin to display it so it 'hangs' correctly.

Just to update... I put my dress on PreLoved website and had interest from someone who had tried it on in a bridal shop - she came and tried it on today and bought it for £550. Am very happy with this! :)
