eat for 30 quid a week

Do you think its possibly to live on £30 a week "by living I mean food wise" could you live on £30 a week or less? just for 1 person.

If so what is the cheapest place to shop for food out of the supermarkets.

    I already do!

My method (as is a lot of people) - stock up on bargains when they come along at whatever shop has them. Which is why I have 32 tins of beans, and 22 jars of pasta sauce in my cupboard! :j

    But other then that,
    - B&M bargains is good for dry goods (tea bags, coffee, ketchup etc)
    - Superdrug - Cheapest for personal products
    - Wilko/Tesco - between the two they sort the cleaning products
    - Lidl - fruit juices, drinks

Mostly I'm a Tesco man, but basically I go where the bargains are. One specific shop can't do all the bargains!

You could do so for a family of four.

We do it, just. We spend about £60 a week between 2 so it is definitely possible. Maybe you would have to view it less as £30 a week and do your meal planning over a fortnight, making meals and freezing portions or similar.

£30 is way more then I spend..

I am doing a quid a day at the moment and oddly enough really enjoying it.

There are tons of ways to live on £30 if you look

Any super stores that do "opps" deals or "used by" reductions ( Tesco's are great )
approved foods can be worth a once every 6 months shop..Enough pasta to last a year in my last shop for £18 (which also had cat food, tin toms, flour etc etc)

I have found that trying a mexican diet works quite well money wise as you can by the chillies when you have cash and just use kidney beans or something like that to make a pretty good dinner.
I buy things like dried beans / pulses, milk powder, yeast, flour etc and can make something home made and fresh every day.

£30 a week is easy ,honestly so relax and get cooking..

  • Yes - I have less than £100 a month for all of my grocery and personal products (food, drinks, cleaning stuff for house and self, clothing, fun things ). That also has to cover anything I spend if I go out one evening.

Works out at £25 a week to spend for more than just food! So yes - you could buy food for one person for £30 a week without much difficulty.

Avoid wasting things, always find ways to use what you have, buy in bulk if it's cheaper (it isn't alway!), look out for promotions/coupons, keep a good stock of items in the freezer (I use a lot of frozen veg as for 1 person some fresh items just don't last before they're used).

Be sensible with what you buy, check the ingredients in things. Often cheaper items have more water or salt (such as tin peas, for instance) so you aren't necessarily getting as good value.

The OldStyle boards on here have soom good hints and tips if I recall correctly.
