Beginer Runner - Walk/Jog routine -motivation needed please!!!!

Hi All,

I am starting a beginners walk/run programme today and would like to post on here my progress on a daily (ish) basis. This is my 3rd attempt at completing one of these programmes, however my wedding is now only 8 weeks away and I have some serious blubber to shift so I need to stick to this one!

Any help/advice/motivation would be appreciated, or if anyone would like to tag along and be a virtual training buddy that would be great!

My plan is to train on Tues, Thurs, Sat and Sun (as per the programme so that's a good start) and week one consists of:

run 2 mins, walk 4 mins - 4 times (total time 24 mins)

In terms of benchmarking progress I will have my weekly weigh in at slimming world but will also be taking part in my local parkrun after weeks 6 and 12.

If you can think of anything else please let me know, look forward to hearing from you!

Nic

This is a great program. My g/f started using this and was finding it a bit of challenge to start with but she soon got into it and was surprised at how well she's been doing. Think she's running about 8 minutes now with 1 minute walking breaks in between.

Without this schedule she never would have been able to do this as running is so not her thing. :D

She now comes out with me for 30 minute runs cross country with just the odd break here and there

Don't be afraid to go back a week in the routine though. If for some reason you don't get much chance to run one week then going back to the previous week's schedule makes it much easier to get back into it.

Sometimes a gap of a week can make it difficult to pick up where you left off so you need to be sensible about what you can achieve and not over stretch yourself

A lot of people use the couch 2 5K (c24k) programme - I started it myself and did far better that I thought.

There's a thread on here somewhere if you search it.

Another recommendation for the couch to 5k (C25K) programme. It worked for me and believe me I hadn't run for about 30 years.

My biggest tip is if your breathing can't keep up, slow down. Even if you're only going very slowly, it's about building up confidence and distance at first, you can work on speed later if you want

    Good luck!
