Single Malt Whisky

Hi All

I would like to buy a nice single malt whisky for my BIL's 40th but have no clue about it. Dont really want to spend more than £50 unless I have to. Anyone able to recommend and nice/good one by any chance? Thanks in advance. :)

    Lucky BIL:)

Single malts can be a personal thing although I have a lot of different ones on the go at the moment and enjoy most of them (excpet Ardbeg which I think tastes of TCP but know lots of people who love it!) - does your BIL have any on the go at the moment?

My brother got me a Balvenie Doublewood which is currently £32 a couple of years ago which has become a favourite but I would like to try the 15yr old single barrel which is just short of £50, and I also keep going back to the old faithful Glenmorangie. A lot of single malt producers have a range of whisky from the standard to ones aged over 12, 15, 20, 25 years etc and obviously the longer they are aged the more expensive but they give a more intense flavour.

If he has a current fave you could always try and get him the same one but one that has been aged longer?

Or another thought - buy him a gift voucher for a whisky shop and let him choose his own?

I dont know what is his fave TBH (the name Talisker springs to mind but Ive maybe just heard him mention it in the past) Ill ask my sister and find out. Good idea re voucher. You and LJM have both mentioned Glenmorangie so that sounds like it might be a good choice. Thanks both for responding! x
