Well, August sees me FINALLY returning to N.Ireland however im sure you can understand recent media has me a bit concerned. Some of my work is in Belfast but I will be bringing my son and hubby with me. Now is it as bad as they say on the news or am I safe to fly and stay within Belfast?

If it wasn't safe to stay within Belfast, none of us would live here. ;-)

Its just the same, trouble confined to a small few areas, which unless you lived there you wouldnt really be going to anyway.
You and your son would be fine.

    LOL I hear that!
  • You will be absolutely fine, I live smack in the middle of Belfast and work in East Belfast, I watched the riots on the news last week - they may as well have been in London for all the difference they made to my day to day life. As others have mentioned, unless you actually live in these areas then they are probably not places that you'll be visiting (and if you do need to pass through and there's any trouble at the time then there are plently of different routes to choose from). Also, with a bit of luck by August all the troublemakers will have worn themselves out after the usual July antics!!

I honestly don't think that you have anything to worry about - it makes me really sad to see the press coming out of Northern Ireland regarding all this again. In my experience the vast majority of us just want to live alongside each other in peace and quiet!!

By August most of the marching will be over, which sometimes can be a catalyst for trouble in certain estates/areas of Belfast. You will be fine.

Our shop is less than a mile from one of the trouble spots, and as a previous poster said, it might as well be in a different country!

Agree also that the vast majority of us just want to get on with our lives and live happily together, very small minority causing touble, and areas are easy to stay out of and not in places you are likely to be going anyway.

Belfast is a great city, and the people are as friendly as ever - hope you enjoy your next visit!
DJWW - cos we won't let it!
  • Ah Jen its great your coming back. Sunny Enniskillen is ready & waiting for your family  Where you going to stay this time?
