Do I have to take calls from creditors

I am just in the process of setting up a DMP via the CCCS> I have set up a new bank account, cancelled all standing orders & DDs & have sent the CCCS DMP copy letter to all creditors along with a token payment. Prior to this I have not defaulted on any payments & in fact contacted MBNA to say i was having difficulty paying. Their solution was to sell me a bigger loan...... my question is, do I have to take calls from creditors or can I politely tell them that the CCCs is dealing with it for me? MBNA are being particularly persistent phoning me at work, every morning when i am trying to get the kids to school & every evening when i am trying to get them to bed.

Thanks

  • Hi Hassled

I'm pretty much in the same boat and did have Morgan STanley calling me every day - The advice from CCCS is to keep talking - repeating the same thing to be more accurate. I know its hard and very irritating but my calls did seem to dry up after about 3 weeks - I've changed my home number now which goes a long way to ending the hassle though they still have my mobile number.

Sorry I can't be more help

  • It is called harassment! Just because they are from a finance company does not give them any legal authority over you. If you have made arrangements over your debts, simply ask them not to call again. If you have a phone number for the CCCS arrangement, I would give them that as well and tell them to ring it. If they persist, tell them you want to give them your solicitor's number as your solicitor has advised you not to talk to them. This is all 'kidology' of course, but that is what they are trying with you, I think. Changing your number, as another reply has mentioned, is also worth considering but BT are less willing to do thsi than they used to be. Best if a female requests it, probably.

    Good luck,
  • I Have about to start a debt management plan with payplan. What worries me most is being called at work do I have to take these calls? Unfortunatley one of my creditors is MBNA!
  • You dont have to take any calls from anyone! If they call at work I would just hang up & say tsk, one of those silent calls or wrong number or whatever. I have had one call at work only....

Im taking all the calls I get at home, I find it makes me feel better to take them. I just keep saying the same thing over & over...in dmp with cccs, not in position to pay any more, review situation in 6 months etc etc

Every creditor has been perfectly polite so far.
Proud to be dealing with my debts :j
