generally, it can keep for 2 years.

but my mum has kept hers in a cool and dry place for 3/4 years without any problems.

Now that's a much better deal. If I hadn't already got a big bag of rice sitting in the cupboard I'd be tempted, particularly as it's for 12 x 500 g packs, as opposed to one big pack.

It just so happens that we eat a reasonable amount of rice in our household, and my target price for basmati rice would be £1 per kg (or less). So I have some idea what deals are out there, and thus know that £7.99 for 5kg ain't that cheap.
