EDF Energy take £1800 out of my Account
Options
Just to warn others who are with EDF energy to check your bank today !!
I have just had £1800 as a monthly DD taken from my bank as i tried to pay for fuel this morning and bank card was rejected by the cashier ,obviously this has made me well overdrawn and I will now receive bank charges for it
I have called EDF and they currently have no idea as to why this has happened ????:mad:
I called my bank and they have "re-called " this amount.
I am gob smacked , my account with EDF was £100 in credit , i have been paying regular DD,s since December 2010 , withno problems

You should have been told in advance that this was going to happen.
Extract from the rules to the direct debit scheme, relevant part for you is highligted:
The advance notice
This is the method by which service users give notice to the payer before the first Direct Debit is collected. It must also be given if the due date, frequency or amount changes.
The service user may agree the period of advance notice with the payer. The default period in the absence of any other agreements is a minimum of 10 working days plus postal time. As such the time period used in the Direct Debit Guarantee is the time allowed between the payer receiving the advance notice and the first / amended collection.
If they didnt inform you in advance they have broken the DD Scheme rules.0 -
thx Uncle Zen , no notice was issued to me atall !!
EDF tell me it was a " system error " and apologised !! " the system" had re-calculated my new monthly DD at £1500
EDF said they will will reimbusre any bank charges I inccured.0 -
I have now received a private message from EDF vis this site, and my matter is being looked into by EDF in detail0

It never stops.
Glad EDF are on the case and thanks for the heads up.
What triggerred this 'system error'?
Why aren't there system controls to prevent this happening? e.g a report to show DD's increased by say > 20%.
How many customers are affected?
What steps are being taken to prevent a repeat?
Perhaps EDF could address some of these natural concerns.0 -
Agreed, backfoot, and I really think their rep should be making some sort of statement on here. EDF have easily been the worst energy company I have ever dealt with. You can never get through unless you are prepared to wait bloody hours (granted if you are still awake when they do answer they are always nothing less than pleasant), their webiste never works at weekends etc etc. They really need to get proactive on here to try and do something about their shattered (on here) reputation.0

Update:
I had the call from EDF this afternoon as promised after being contacted here by them.
The lady was very pleasant and said that EDF took this matter very seriously.
Basically EDF apologised for their error, and also offered me a goodwill gesture.
They went onto say that a lesson has been learnt on their behalf , and that training will be given to advisors.
So I hope no-one else will have this happen to them in the furure !!0
