Transferred loan settlement to wrong account!!

Ten days ago I transferred nearly 4k from my online current account to another bank where I had a personal loan. This was to pay off the loan in full. I accidently entered the wrong loan account number to pay the money into, although I did enter the right sort code. Obviously the money has not turned up in my loan account with the other bank and so they are still taking monthly payments. Its been ten working days today and the settlement payment has not bounced back to my currrent account as of 5.50am. I've checked the sort code/account number I paid the money to on a free checker website and unfortunately it does exist as a valid account - its one of thousands that this particular bank use at their loans department to give customers loans from.
So basically it looks (in the banks eyes) like I just decided one day to send nearly 4k to another persons loan account! I'm hoping that both banks understand the genuine mistake and return the money. But should I be bracing myself for a long struggle to get the money back, or god forbid not at all???
Thanks for the help everyone

You need to go into the bank, you'll have proof of this transfer so I wouldn't think it would be hard to prove the origin of the money.
Why haven't you been into the bank in the last ten days?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Agree, this should be simple enough to resolve once you go in branch.0
