feeding cakes and adding marzipan and icing

I have just made my Christmas cake! :j
Feeling dead pleased with myself as I don't make cakes very often
Admittedly though, I left it a bit late this year... and the recipe calls for feeding the cake with rum and leaving it wrapped up for a couple of weeks. Obviously I haven't got time to leave it that long, so I wondered if anyone has any bright ideas on how long I should leave it after feeding the cake before adding the marzipan and icing? I don't want the rum kind of leaking back out again - though I'm not sure if this is likely! If I fed it today, do you reckon it would be okay to marzipan it tomorrow?
what do you all think? or would it be better if I didn't add any more booze and just marzipaned and iced it as it is? (the fruit was already soaked in rum overnight before adding to the cake).
Thanks in advance

I would work backwards from when you need the cake.
If you need it on Xmas day, you could ice it on xmas eve (Sun), marzipan it on Saturday, which means you still have time to feed it it tonight (Wed) and maybe even again on Friday.
Even without the feeding, I'm sure the cake will be delicious.

ive just made one (made my own a month ago, but an aunt liked the look of mine so much she asked me to make her one!)
i will stab my cake with a meat fork several times tonight when its cooled down and pour about 6 tablespoons of brandy on it ... wrap it in gp paper, leave it til friday, turn it over and do the same again. rewrap, leave til sunday morning then turn over again and do it all again! will marzipan it and ice it sunday afternoon
did this a couple of years ago so i know it works, and it was amazingly moist and delicious!! (and a tad boozy!!!)wading through the treacle of life!

Thanks very much
I think I'll prob feed it with more rum tonight then, marzipan tomorrow and ice tomorrow afternoon as I am hoping to impress my family with a finished cake at the weekend
Haven't tasted it yet, so I hope I haven't left out some vital ingredient - like sugar! But I'm sure it will look the part, at least and that's the main thing :j0
