Phone Call Asking for Solicitor
I have just had a strange call from what seemed like an international call centre where they read out an "affidavit" asking for my solicitor because I had broken the law with a fraudulent cheque paid on line for a company called "UK Cash Advance" - they had my e-mail address and my employer's details and said I'd be getting the paperwork delivered to me tomorrow! Obvioulsy some sort of scam so should I report it to the police? The telephone number is 0208 819 3982 and the reference was "Criminal Case".

I had a phone call from a London number saying that i was entitled to a couple of grand in bank charges, they knew my address and everything (well, old address!) and said they knew my bank details. When i wouldn't give them my new address they said goodbye - was a complete con - similar number. I called Barclays with this and they said ignore it, noone seems interested in these kinda scams! If it's not a scam, you'll soon find out if you recieve the papers, lolMan who run into airport turn-styles is going to Bangkok

Another link, seems like they have been involved in the loan scam where upfront payments via Western Union to India are asked for as well.
Lots of connected numbers, scam after scam it seems.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback! Had never heard of the Who Calls Me site - interesting!
I should have realized it was a scam but because they left a message with a work colleague that it was urgent I felt I should follow it up. No papers have arrived yet - have told the security guard downstairs to look out for them!
I don't actually have a cheque book any more but they have obviously got my details from somewhere - think it might be worrying for an elderly or vulnerable person but not sure what can be done to stop them?0 -
A possible way they could have got your details, would have been if you have applied for a loan, even via a loan comparison site.
The link is that it is reported that after doing this, some people receive calls from companies who claim to deal with customers with bad credit. But all they do is pass details around each other, including it would seem some associated with the Indian loan scammers I mention.
And now these same scammers have come out with another type of scam.0
