To be honest (as someone who is over 50 himself) don't limit yourself to any particular field, I would be very surprised if someone over 50 could not tailor his CV to fit a broad range of jobs.
I know I can, which is why I have ended up working as a scarecrow
OK, official title is a Bird Control Operator, but its really a modern version of a scarecrow0 -
Google search RSA Word Processing and Text Processing qualifications. Word and Text are slightly different. They are in stages I, II and III. You'd need II at least but they are very easy exams to do. I got stage III with distinction in them and at the time I was still thinking about each letter as I typed. Later with more practise I got to typing properly without thinking. It does take time though. I'm now learning piano which is the same process.. although much, much slower.. sigh.
Thanks tortoise. I might just follow that up.0 -
alison.com do a touch typing skills course (free) along with free courses on Office 2003, and also individual courses on EXCEL/ POWERPOINT/ WORD etc All you do is registerSealed Pot Challenge member #982
In 2012 I pledge to:- Save £1 a day, meal plan, be more organised, have NSDs, set myself a budget AND STICK TO IT, throw all loose change into Sealed Pot and not open it till 29th November.:money:0 -
Touch typing will get you secretarial jobs. Admin jobs prefer the ECDL or CLAIT which I forgot about. Many colleges offer ECDL at evening classes and it is very basic computer stuff which you could whip through in quick time.0

deffinatly dont sell yourself short at your age you offer a wealth of experience in many different things you will have done in the past. i also think ( not wanting to sound like stereotyping) that older staff seem to bring a different work ethic to the job place compared to younger staff.
look everywere and think outside the box lots of work skills are transferable. i worked in insurance for 15 years and a corner shop for 2 years part time. and now i take peoples blood as part of a blood donor team. and i love it0 -
