Not suitable for oven cooking?

Just a quick question for all you knowledgable cooks out there...

Bought a crispy duck and pancakes from tescos the other day (don't worry it was in the bargain due up today area!) and once I got it home I noticed it was microwave only and specifically said 'Not suitable for oven cooking'. Not having a microwave I just put the shredded duck in the oven as I couldn't think why it wouldn't be suitable for cooking this way, heated it through thoroughly and it tasted fine and I'm here to tell the tale.

Question is, why does it say it's not suitable for oven cooking? I'm sure there must be a reason for them to say this to put it on there?

Thanks,

Paul.

  • Probably because you can't really put the pancakes in an oven unless you put them in foil first.

No, I'm still fine thanks pudds. The tray it came in should have been suitable as it was just a foil tin, although I did take it out of that to spread it thinner on some tin foil. Obviously the pancakes would have gone hard just placed in the oven, but again, wrapped in some foil and they were fine.

Maybe I should get with the times and get a microwave but it seems to be pretty much the only gadget I've never really found a need or want for.

It just struck me as strange that it specifically stated not suitable for the oven, oh well!

    Paul.
  • I would imagine it is just to ensure the pancakes don't go crispy as well as the duck. But if you only put the duck in then that wouldn't matter.

I never really wanted a microwave...then I realised how useful it is to defrost meat when I've forgotten to get it out for the evening meal and I use it daily ATM to make porridge...can't make it in a pan as it's like concrete then :o:rotfl:
