I am new to this forum so apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I do a lot of baking and wonder if there is any difference between the various brands of flour. Is it OK just to use the cheapest own brand?

I use Tesco's own brand flour as at about 27p, it's not that bad and my cakes always turn out fine. I use better quality flour for bread though.
I too would be interested to know if anyone has tried anything more expensive and had different results...Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
I do a lot of baking and I use Tesco value plain and self-raising flour for cakes and biscuits. It's absolutely fine
I use Tesco own brand strong white, and strong wholemeal flour for breadmaking, and that's fine too.
I think with baking the ingredient you have to pay attention to for the best flavour is the fat. Butter will always win
Tesco value butter is fine for baking too. 0
