cheap skin care via amazon and question about strawberrynet

I am splashing out on some expensive night cream from Lancome. I found it via Amazon market place and emailed the seller to ask if they would confirm that the product was not old stock . Within an hour I got this reply which I thought was very honest:

" hi there, no i understand your concern.. the stock is 100% good stock, from what im aware this particular size has only been on the market for a year. the stock is 100% fresh. the reason why they are cheaper is becasue they were part of n department store display and they dont sell them after wards as they cant class them as new to there customers.. im selling them cheap for this reason and also to sell stock quicker so you get a better deal.. they are boxed, some have slight marks on but they will be the last ones i sell so if you ordered it would be a perfect box. we dont have any other of the range im afraid. "

I dont quite understand this - does he mean its been in a window display or some sort of store promotion? Why would the store get rid of a fair no of boxes in one go? Anyway, am not going to buy

I then looked on Strawberrynet and found the product on there at same price it said 'special discount' I can write and ask them but I wonder if this is some similar type of thing - its another very good discount of the type I cannot find elsewhere - most other places like the e chemists just a couple of quid off John Lewis price.

I have had obviously new boxed stuff from strawberrynet before and I think they are a very big retailer in Hong Kong - anyone got good/bad experiences? Vat is inclued now in their prices

When I worked for the NHS we had the " perfume lady" who came once every couple of months and sold top named perfumes and cosmetics at a fraction of the high street prices

A lot of the stock was unboxed as it was ex store display. The bottles and jars are taken out of the boxes to make up pretty displays for promotions - then sold on to resellers

I used to work in woolies many many years ago and we would have make up artists like Barbara Daly come in to do make overs using the products of which ever company they were working for at the time - rimmel, max factor etc), and a lot of stock was "opened" for display - and then sold to staff for peanuts ( the cosmetic companies paid for it all)
