Expiry dates on medical items

Hi all,

I have been rooting through my cupboards trying to find something to stop this terrible sweat rash itching which I have after a holiday in the sun.
I came across a small jar of Sudacrem but the date is 2006 as the expiry date.
Is it safe to use?
At the moment, money is a bit tight and I have so many items in my house that need using up.
Sorry if it;s in the wrong thread, but didn't know where else to write it.

I once had a conversation with a pharmacist who said - in the main they dont go off after the date but just that the active ingredients strength diminishes.Give it a go - I would. I have many things in my medicine cupboard that are out of date and would use. I would probably be more cautious if it was a product that had to be ingested though, like the previous poster mentioned.

As others have said probably can't do any harm as not being ingested.

Also, Distilled White Vinegar is a very good cost-effective way of cooling & soothing the skin after sunburn - just put a little on a tissue & drape over affected area.
Apparently it helps restore the lost acidic level to the skin, and gives a cooling effect.

Sorry - forgot also to say Aloe Vera Gel is also very good - if you have any lying around.
Not tried it myself but have also heard of people taking antihistamine tablets (hayfever) to both prevent & cure the effects of prickly heat.
    Good luck

My mum was a pharmacist and she said exactly the same.

Good tip about white wine vinegar - had hoped to get some flamazine but it is prescription only so will take a mental note of this. Really hope i dont need it though

  • Personally if it looked ok I would use it but remember everyone on here is only offering their own personal opinions. An internet forum is not the best place to seek medical advice.
