    Butter freezes quite well.

As for making it yourself, I did once - many years ago - but making enough for a family would take a entail of work.

Strange - they left out speculation and market rigging. Can't imagine why.

Perhaps the authors of the piece where unaware of any speculation or market rigging. If you are in possession of such information, perhaps you should let them know.

I quote from your link: "DairyCo is a levy-funded, not-for-profit organisation working on behalf of Britain's dairy farmers. Our remit is to solve 'market failure' in the dairy industry - to tackle issues not currently being dealt with sufficiently to meet the needs of the industry."

Not perhaps the first place I would look for a penetrating impartial analysis. In the trade are you, out of interest?

This afternoon I bought Lurpak spreadable at ASDA. the offer is £2.98 per 500gm tub - but 2 tubs for £4.50. :)

    But this is not butter.

I am perplexed by the rise in butter prices, it is ridiculous.

But milk and cheese have never been so cheap. Surely they are all dairy products and their prices rise and fall together!!

No, are you? I was just trying to establish whether or not you had any specific knowledge of the butter market or whether you were just having a good old rant.

Besides, I'd have thought that if you wanted to get some idea of why the market price of butter had shot up this year, reading up on some info on a website dedicated to the dairy industry would probably be a better place to start rather than some anonymous postings on an internet bulletin board.

If I had any specific knowledge of the butter market, I would already know why it is rising in pirce so disproportionately and I wouldn't need to post on a website which includes posters so complacent that if they were being held at gunpoint by !!!!!! Turpin, would ask if he minded holding on for half an hour so they cold nip back home and get the family silver out of the safe, too.

Is there some element in the concept of 'money saving' that you're not quite au fait with?

There are still sometimes 2 for £2 offers on butter at Sainsburys (other places too probably) and you can freeze butter if you want to get stock in when they do it. Thegoing up str price of butter seems to have been going up steadily for the past year or so.

Unless I need it for baking I have used mayo for spreading in sandwiches instead of butter Its possible with a little forethought to replace things that have increased in price with something else The M & S butter type spread is very nice and at 1.65 for 500 grammes isn't a bad replacement, but I keep an eye open, and if I see it at a pound a block on offer I buy it and chuck into the freezer as I will use it at Christmas in cakes and shortbread which I make as presents
