Anyone know if I can pay my Council Tax at a Post Office, and if so, can I pay by Credit Card without any additional charge?

It depends on the council - if they allow you pay via the post office you would likely need a payment card. Most councils take payment via their websites anyway.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Credit cards usually have a fee charged when you pay the council tax. My council accepts payments through Payzone outlets (they are usually in post offices and many other small shops) and most of those will only accept cash without charging an additional admin fee.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

If you look at your local council's website, I'm sure it will list all the ways you can pay them. Mine doesn't say if there is an extra charge if you use a credit card to pay that way, but then I can't remember if I've been able to use my credit card to buy stamps at the PO: it's possible that the PO doesn't accept credit cards.

If you pay online or by phone here then there is a charge if you use your credit rather than a debit card.

    Hi,

Yes you can buy stamps at the Post Office with a credit Card. I am doing it all the time.

I can pay the Council Tax at a Post Office. I have to get a payment card. No one seems to know if I can pay by Credit Card though without charge. The council siad they were not sure, but I could certainly use a Debit Card or cash. The Post Office said they were not sure, and said get the payment Card and we will try.

I have a cashback credit card and this was the reason why I asked if I could pay at the PO this way. I know I can pay this way at the Council Offices so that will probably be the way forward although the Post Office is nearer to me.

    Thanks for all the replies
