Electricity is expensive, but you can reduce the cost of running your TD by making sure your WM is set on a fast spin, so your laundry is as dry as possible before you put it in the TD. You can also use dryer balls (or a couple of old tennis balls) as this keeps the washing from clumping together and staying damp. Also make sure that you fill it with enough stuff when you do use it (but don't overload it either).
If you can borrow a plug-in monitor, you can work out how much electricity your TD users and compare the cost to your heating (which you can work out by reading the meter before and after it is on).
If you are drying on airers, the best way to do it is to put it in an unheated room with an open window. If the room/weather is damp, it may take a long time to dry though.
I think you need to be pragmatic and work out what's important to you. If you need things quickly, then put a load in the TD. You might also think about putting things on airers overnight when the space isn't an issue, but finishing them off in the TD in the morning if they're in the way. Or if you're on E7, but the TD on a timer so that you use E7 (and if its in the kitchen, set it to come on late, and then it'll warm your kitchen up too!).0 -
I've recently discovered our laundrette. It only takes me 80p to dry 2 lots of washing & it not only gets the wet washing away, but cuts down on ironing massively therefore reducing leccy :j To me it's 80p well spent once every 3 weeks. Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker
