If they're not already multi-region, you should be able to find a hack code for them. I did with mine, and now it will play any region DVD, haven't tried copies so can't comment on that.

Not being able to play copies is generally either down to your dvd player not being able to play the format the file is saved in eg. divx or .mpg or .avi. Or the dvd player being unable to read the disc because it isn't compatible eg cdr, cd-rw, dvd-r, dvd-rw etc. Your player should have a list of what file types and disc types it will and will not play.

Typing the details of your player (manufacturer & product code) and multiregion into google should bring up whether your player is multiregion or not. If it isn't multi region then this site has some known region hacks to make your dvd player multiregion, one of your players might be listed there -
