How early can I arrange re-mortgage?

I have a fixed rate deal that ends in Jan 2012 ie 6 months time. I was hoping to lock into a new fixed rate but obviously can't move banks prior to Jan 2012 as I will incur ERC's.

Start it around late Oct/early Nov, will be plenty of time to get an application in before Feb.0
