Best Man - what to buy the happy couple as a gift?

Ok, I'm best man for a close mate in a few weeks and I'm looking for ideas on what to get the happy couple as a wedding gift. On the invitations they simply ask for money (vulgar I know, but very common these days as most couples have already set up home together) but as best man I guess I should get them a proper gift. Is that traditional?
All I can think of is a nice vase! To be honest I'm sure the groom would be happy with cash from me, as the wedding's cost an arm and a leg, but I do think a nice gift would be better and it would be something they'd associate with me and their marriage (all together now, "ahhhhhh"). So other than a vase, any ideas?

Personally i would go with what the couple ask for...they have not asked for a vase so probably dont want one...PERHAPS explain your situation to the groom and your desire to buy a gift and then let the couple decide what to ask you for
If they are having a honeymoon perhaps you could pay for an experience...a nice meal car hire...boat trip...something that they could remember and attribute the cost to you.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

We asked all of our bridal party not to get us anything as they did so much for us (organising hen/stags, helping out with the preps, bot to mention the costs of accom & transport etc they incurred).
Your gesture is very lovely OP, and I think it would be nicer to get a memorable gift rather than cash, which will just end up in a big pot.
Maybe a nice framed photo of you & the couple, or as someone else suggested, a honey moon experience for them.0 -
Tickets to a gig? Alternatively a red letter experience day? A spa day or something? I'm not one for "things" and would much rather have experiences - do you think they would prefer that?
I'd avoid a vase! But it depends on what they're like?? Maybe a board game like Cranium for their future house parties? Or if you want something more personalised, you can get them bride & groom wine glasses? You can get these personalised on eBay with hair colour, add things like a football which indicate their hobby etc.Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

We asked for a keepsake or money towards our honeymoon from our guests but we didn't get much to keep, we got a few gorgeous photo frames which were lovely, maybe you could get them a marriage certificate holder (if no one else has got one!) which are not too expensive[STRIKE]Getting married to[/STRIKE] Married my soul mate on

One of our favorite gifts from friends (despite asking for money!) was personalised Mr and Mrs "Emma Bridegwater" mugs! Available from the emma bridgewater shop online.
Some friends were given vouchers for an art gallery so thay could pick their own memorable gift - also a nice idea.0 -
