Just to clarify, the OP, Battyboimatt, has only just gone BR so won't have access to online banking at Barclays. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I have a basic account with Barclays. The guy who opened it for me also setup an ISA for me, although I can't really afford to put anything into it at the moment. I also asked about internet banking as it's so much easier to manage your account without having to get mini-statements out all the time. He put this request in for me, and within 5 days I received a letter with my internet banking number and everything.0

Greendog - several members have reported being offered and gaining internet and telephone banking with Barclays. Then they lost it fairly quickly too. Barclays do not allow internet and telephone banking to current BRs, only after discharge.

Thanks, I guess I should keep quiet about it then.
Can't understand why, as a BR, you cannot have internet banking anyway. As I said earlier, it's so much easier to manage accounts online.0 -
I totally agree with you and it would be better for Barclays to know their BR customers could keep a better eye on their accounts too. However, it's the way they work now so all we can do is hope for a change in the future.
Do let us know if you get to keep your internet banking though, would be a step in the right direction if that starts happening. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I think the issue is the way Barclays operate their internet banking system?
Unlike Co-op...... Barclays as I knew them had a lot of product access available on their internet system....meaning it was very easy to access some form of credit.
Co-op...whilst they have product access on their main site, have no such access on their internet banking site. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
I never knew that Alistair, makes sense now. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

That is exactly the reason the PB gave to me, when applying for the Barclays basic account.:pB&SC No. 298

hi...as an example..[and things may have changed over the past few years, I accept]....when I had my Barclays [full] account with internet access....I could take out a loan, instantly, no quibbles, up to a certain amount [about 4k, in my case]....the funds would be in my account pretty much instantly.
Simply a case of, clicking the link, adding the amount of loan required, confirmation, and hey presto!
I think there was a minimum loan amount too....
Nowhere was there a facility to notify BArclays of undischarged BR...mandatory if wishing to borrow in excess of £500.
I think Barclays decision was based upon their personal knowledge of the customers financial habits....rather than what was on a CRA file...certainly seemed to be the case, anyway.......since no searches were recorded.
Barclays seem to have a very convoluted system of loans products......with different departments within the Barclays umbrella offering differing rates and condition's....
to me, a loan is a loan...but not apparently, to Barclays. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0
