Extra marriage certificate

Sorry if this sounds like a really silly question! We got married in a church last Saturday and only got the one certificate at the time and didn't get the opportunity to ask but I would like an additional copy to be able to send out to the necessary people to change my name.

Do we need to go back to the church for an extra copy or do we need to contact the registry office? I wasn't sure if they would have the details from the marriage yet?

TIA! :D

I don't know if things have changed but I seem to remember that when we got married, it was sufficient to provide a photocopy for most purposes. It had to be signed by us with words along the lines of "I confirm this is a true copy".

If the original is asked for, then this won't be sufficient but it would be worth asking each individual company exactly what they require. Much cheaper than keep getting official copies.

I had to send a whole lot of documents off to various people once, so I made clear photocopies then went to the police station and asked them to confirm that they were true copies of the original. They stamped it with a big official police stamp and signed the back and everything and I never had any problems or complaint about not sending the originals.
    Life on a shoestring!

I scanned my wedding certificate and updated with a few companies online.

tv license was updated without proof online
barclays went into the bank they updated my normal account then rang barclaycard for me took MC with me. They also leave your maiden name on account so you don't' worry about direct debits gong wrong etc.
Paypal was the hardest as to change your name you need photographic evidence of new name. So i had to get a passport! also scanned MC and sent it online directly.
My marks and sparks card i rang and they asked for a copy i never wrote or got it stamped just printed from the scanned one i had they changed everything fine.
Went into council offices (small town easy to do took 5 mins) updated council tax with original.
The only time i let our only original out of my sight was to post it to the passport office using the check and send it took 10 days to get back and paid for was it insured or trackable to be on the safe side. i think i paid £87 in total.
    BT let me update online
my jackpotjoy account accepted a file upload of the MC scan i had done. took 3 days for them to update it.
library yet to do they need no proof i have asked.
changed my settings with yahoo mail no problems

trying to think where else ooooooooooo must update schools with details i guess

I only have one copy and just sent it off to companies where necessary. Some take photocopies, some want the original.

One of the weirdest was Sky who insisted on the original. I could understand it from my pension companies. But Sky?!

Always came back to me safe and sound but I was a bit nervous while it was away each time. For peace of mind, probably worth the cost of a duplicate. :)

Also make sure you get them signed for whilst not very mse paying out more it not worth the hassle of replacing it if they loose it!

silly thing about all these companies is that the only "original" version is the one in the register signed by the bride and groom - all the others are certified copies...

Agreed can understand needing "proper copy" for insurance / passport etc etc but as you say why sky?

I have just called my registry office to get a copy of our marriage certificate (we got married in church just over a week ago). They said for church weddings we have to contact the church to get a copy.

No probs, just spoke to the vicar, he is making a duplicate as i type this, and the fee is £9.

Apparently registry offices only keep historical certificates and certificates for marriages conducted by them. Marriages in the last 18 months at a church you need to see the vicar as he is the registrar.
