£30 charge plus high interest for £8 unauthorised overdraft

Hi,

I unfortunately I wrote a cheque that took me £8 overdrawn (unauthorised). That was banked Friday and I transfered money from our joint account on Monday. I received a letter yesterday telling me that we would be charged £30 plus a high interest. Fair enough about the interest, but I'm peed off with the £30 charge. I'm going to call them to see if they will overide this because it's a ridiculous penalty.

However I'm now more concerned that this blip, is going to be recorded on our credit report. Does anyone know?

Thanks

On the flip side of the coin, I went £1.30 over my OD limit on 21st Oct, got paid on 25th and kept £28 spare for the obligatory charge. Alomst 2 months later, no letter and no charge! I'm with Intelligent Finance incase you were wondering!
  • Some backs have £5 buffer just in case you get slightly overdrawn

I got overdran by 74p in my Natwest account and they charged me £28.

Went overdrawn 3 days before payday & got hit with £30 per day.

Got a court date in March for my claim.

They can't. Probably why no bank has yet to defend it's charges in a court of law.

Although, I do believe a bank has a right to charge customers for things that cost it money, but only proportionate charges i.e. what it costs the bank in relational terms.

Halifax in my opinion are the worst for charges. £15 per phone call even if they do not make contact with you .... list goes on.

    yeah im with natwest -

went into the branch today and they sent a concern to the customer service team - 3 -5 days to find out. As it was only £3.99 and my first charge they will probably let me off

They probably won't let you off, NatWest are evil.

They put through a DD which I hadn't authorised which put me 27p overdrawn and they charged me £68

And then said, I should manage my account better
