I have damp also in my kitchen and part of my living room. Haven't a clue where it comes from. It is perhaps the most annoying issue with owning a house.0

The Nuair thing was just over £300 then had to pay the fitter about £80ish, so around £400 all in but very well worth it!0

With regard to putting mechanical ventilation in the attic, before buying it would be worthwhile to check that available ventilation is not blocked up.
If it is a relatively new house, there should be sufficient ventilators in the eaves soffits to ventilate the roofspace, because the building regulations require it, but often this ventilation is blocked by the insulation or is not properly installed. To check if the eaves ventilators are working, during daylight hours, in the roofspace crawl to the eaves (where the rafters meet the ceinling timbers) and look for daylight coming from the ventilators. Some eaves vents are hidden as a small strip which is difficult to see and you might not see any daylight. In that case try to feel for a draught. I once saw a house only 4 or 5 years old with rotting timber trusses in the rood space beause the ventilation was totally blocked at eaves by the insulation and condensation was forming on the the said trusses.0
