We're not having top tables as we want a more relaxed feel and I want to be able to mingle easily with the guests also we're having a hog roast

I hated the idea so much, I'm not even having tables anymore :D
Seriously, couldn't be bothered with that at all...we've some sofas, some bar stools etc...people can mill around and sit where they want...the bride and groom will be centre of attention wherever they are...

I'm the same - this is the main reason why we're not having a traditional wedding. The idea of having a sit down meal freaks me out - even if it was a buffet with tables.... argh! We're just having a house party instead (with as you know my now infamous buffet lol), I'm not even getting a chair for each person as I expect a fair number to be standing up chit chatting! :)

We had a buffet meal on the evening, we had no top table or seating plan. Everything was perfect! Guests sat where they wanted and we mingled with guests all night...we didn't even have our own seats.

We're having a sit down meal for the wedding breakfast and I think we're going to have a sweetheart table for just the two of us. That way my parents can sit with my sister, and his parents can be with their family and hopefully everyone will mingle later at the evening buffet

I think we're having a top table, with the wedding party in a seating plan, then everyone else will be assigned to a table but can sit wherever they like on said table.

The reason I chose that is because both of our families are quite shy and I really want to encourage them to mingle and get to know each other, so we'll be putting all grandparents together, aunts and uncles together, cousins together, high school and uni friends together.
    Life on a shoestring!

We're having a horse-shoe type of table layout, so kinda a top table but with the other tables down the side so we can still see everyone cos as you said they're all very important!
Planned our wedding, still planning lessons

  • Our room is like a horseshoe shape with the off centre being a sunken dance floor so not quite sure what to do!

In a way its ideal because we won't have to move any tables for the evening disco and the kids can run around down there without annoying anyone but gives us a big headache with the seating!

We are going over to take pictures of the room in a few weeks so it gives us an idea and we can plan something but any ideas would be extremely welcome xx

I haven't got a clue what we're doing...the venue suggested certain arrangements for top table numbers but it didn't work. Each of us only has a mum, neither of whom has a partner, so we'd have been happy to have us and our mums but seems we may need to have more than 4. If we did best man and bridesmaid that's not ideal as best man is OH's son and BM is his daughter and we don't his kids top table while mine aren't. My eldest son is standing in for my dad so we could have his son as best man and mine as FoB but we know our kids would like to sit with their partners, and I'd never hear the end of it if my eldest son was top table while his younger brother wasn't, jeez the rivalry between them is bad enough at the best of times...which is why having just us and the mums was our best bet. Think we really need to get to grips with numbers then do some serious persuading!
