How shall I phrase this?

I'm applying for a job where I think I have a good chance of being called for interview. However, the interviews begin "week commencing July 4th" and I am on holiday until the evening of July 5.

There isn't a section on the application form to put dates you're unavailable for interview, so I wanted to add a brief note somewhere just to let them know that if I do get an interview, I really need it to be from July 6 onwards.

How would you do this? It's a standard, generic application form, and I wasn't planning to send a covering letter, but maybe I should write a brief one and add the information in there? I don't want to just stick a post-it on the form with a note, as I don't think it looks very professional.

I want to phrase it in a way that makes it clear that my inability to attend on the earlier days is unavoidable, and I don't want to sound really cocky as if I think I'm guaranteed an interview.... :undecided

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. :)

You answered your own question; send a covering letter. I would just put something like:

"Should you be interested in inviting me for an interview, due to holiday's, the earliest I would be able to attend would be the 6th of July."

I would put this at the end of the covering letter.
There's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I did that once and they totally ignored it and gave me an interview date during my holiday. I also once asked for an early or late in the day interview time as I couldn't be released from work during the day and they gave me an interview time of noon! Hope you have more luck.

Can't remember exactly what I wrote now but something like "If I am fortunate enough to be selected for interview could I please request that... "

Please get rid of that greengrocer's apostrophe if you use BOT's example ...

I'd probably say something like "I note that you plan to hold interviews during the week commencing July 4th. I am away on holiday until the evening of July 5th, so would appreciate an interview after that date if I am shortlisted."

That shows that you've read the information available and are responding to it, rather than just randomly telling them all about your holidays IYSWIM.

they would expect currently employed persons to fit the interview around current work, if they cant be flexible, they arent that great a company are they!
