Problems with Abbey

Has anyone else had any issues with their mortgage application with Abbey?
My mortgage broker put in my mortgage application 4 weeks ago. It took them 3 weeks to come back and offer me £4K less than I needed. I managed to negotiate with my vendor and understood the Abbey were arranging the survey.
My broker has just phoned to say the Abbey now want to reduce the loan by £250!!!
So all in all, it's taken them 4 weeks to do nothing. They seem to take great pleasure in delaying things and use petty excuses to do so.
I'm pulling my hair out!!

Not been our favourite lender in the last couple of years (due appalling service levels and inefficient underwriting) but greatly improved in recent months - have three cases through them (one of them quite borderline) this month and all have flown through - all to offer already.
Can only assume they had to 'tidy up' your actual income and/or financial commitments by your description.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Abbey's criteria and affordability can be restrictive especially is you have dependants which effects their affordability criteria, they are not flexible on this either, it either fits or it doesnt, 4 weeks seems an awful long wait, thier service levels are much improved in the last 6 months and like the above posts, i am usually only waiting a maximum of 1 week for an offer. You may want to suggest to your broker to look at a different lender as you are wasting time at the moment. Once again this seems to be a case of 'Chasing the Rate'. Good luck to you.I am a Mortgage Advisor. You should note that this site does not check my status as a Mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Indeed, Abbey have improved a great deal of late.
They also have good deals.
However sometimes, as with all lenders, a case will get "caught up".
However, if they are not offering what you need, you need to find out why and rectify if possible.
If you cannot rectify, you then need to decide on whether you can find a bigger deposit and/or if you want to try a different lender who may be more generous based on your circumstances.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. My broker has phoned to say the survey has been instructed. So hopefully it will now go ahead.
4 weeks of my life I'll never get back!0
