Your allowed an expense for internet if it is needed for work/school etc - you wont be allowed mobile [hone, but most people just add a little onto the land line to allow for this and although your not allowed presents and emergency expenses most OR's allow a little for holidays so put the figure in there instead. Although each OR is different they will amend the SOA if they dont think it is a reasonable expense!

I was allowed internet as I sometimes work from home, I was allowed a figure for holidays too!

I do not generate enough money to have an income.. which is why I did not put it on the SOA.

I am getting ever so confused with the car thing now tho!

My understanding is that they will prob let OH keep his vehicle cos he travels around thecountry but mine will probably be sold even though I need it for my work and school run?

I would be happy to buy a cheaper car if necessary but obviously will probably end up costing a lot more cos it will prob go wrong more often ... vicious circle.

I think the point people are trying to make is that you would be allowed to keep your car, if you paid for it - if the car is in your name and not your husbands then surely it is your asset and not his, and would not need to be mentioned in the SOA - but you would not be allowed to include fuel and maintenance expenses on his SOA either - if that makes sense!
  • Thanks Manoona
Ok so yes the car is in my name etc but I don't have enough funds to pay for its upkeep. He is the sole breadwinner (currently - I am working on this!) So is he not allowed to continue paying for it?!

Sorry i must sound really thick - I'm not, honest!!

This is where I am getting confused I think but I think that has made it a bit clearer.

So even though there is no official allowance made for mobiles, you can still have one?! Oooh lots to get my head around!

It really is very confusing, but yes as the car is in your name leave it off fromt he SOA - The trick is finding other areas that you can maybe increase a little that will cover those costs - remembering that they have to be reasonable expenses for your area.

Like I said I was'nt allowed a mobile phone expense but I was able to increase my landline a little, I was not allowed and emergancy expense but I was allowed an holiday fund, and so on.

Obviously mine was fairly simple as it was just me, but there are some real SOA experts on here that im sure will give some good advice soon!

Big thanks to everyone for their advise so far on my various posts.
Just wondered if anyone could have a quick look at my SOA

Am I right in thinking that as we have £68 surplus a month this would be used for an IPA?

Not sure I understand that part of it..... many thanks

Does DH have breakdown cover in his insurance, if not then get some £10ish.

Does DH wear suits to work? If so dry cleaning £10

Does he pay any professional fees or get professional mags/papers?

Have a look at that and then redo it and see what we get.
