Bankrupt bank accounts.

Hello,
My partner has 8/9 months left of his bankrupcy and is having a hard time getting a bank account. I had read that the Co-op and Barclays offer basic accounts and as Barclays is local told him to apply for the cash card account.
Having input his details the 'system' would go no further so he is waiting for a call to explain whether it was a computer issue or that he wouldn't be offered the account. The staff member informed him they don't give all bankrupts accounts as there are 'different types of bankrupcy'.
Can anyone give me some advice on this and if this guy is speaking nonsense or not please?
thanks

When I applied to Barclays the computer rejected me, but the personal banker I saw said this was quite normal. Shen said she would have to put in manually and would get back to me in a few days. After about a week I got a phone to say the account had been approved. As far as I know there are only 2 types of BR, one where the debtor petitions their own BR, and the other is where the creditor files for BR. Should not really make any difference which one you are for opening a basic account.:pB&SC No. 298

I've just opened a Barclays CashCard account and yep, rejected, but the staff in branch can 'appeal' the rejection on the computer. I received a phonecall the day after the appeal telling me it was all approved and offering me a savings account to go alongside. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

How long did that appeal process take Ineedaname? This seems to be dragging on and on and he needs an account before all his financial obligations start making noises.
He initially went to RBS or BoS, and was told he could open an account.....that was weeks ago and nobody got back to him to let him know either way. I suspected head office likely rejected his application!

Why don't you ring up the Co-op and ask if they will open a Cashminder account for you? 08457 212 212

As I said above, the staff did something on the computer to appeal the rejection and I heard the following day that the account was open and paperwork, cards etc on their way in the post.
You just need to be persistent and confirm that you know the account is available to BRs and if they appeal the rejection it should go through. Obviously some people are refused, mostly on the basis of having had debts with Barclays though I think. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

If you see a personal banker, they should already know that the computer will reject you, mine did anyway. There is no definitive answer to how long it takes to be accepted when processed manually. The sooner you do it the better.:):pB&SC No. 298

I live in a large village and neither of the two personal advisors I saw knew about the account being automatically rejected becuase they've never had to open and account for a BR before. Presumably they don't read and digest any internal procedural updates!
BUT the second advisor did at least ring up someone else who told them what to do and how to appeal the rejection via the computer. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

You guys have been very helpful, thank you so much! If he hasn't had a call by lunchtime today we are going to go in and speak with someone, and i will inform them i know this account is available for BR's. Hopefully get someone more helpful than he had when he went in during the week. If that fails then i will get him to call Co-op, thanks for the number Tigerfeet2006!

Were they "personal bankers" or just branch staff? Where I live we don`t even have a Barclays branch, had to to travel to the next town for one.:pB&SC No. 298
