Hello, I use quite a lot of herbs while cooking and its quite expensive for the little jars in supermarkets, is there anywhere online where I can buy them in bulk cheaper, a friend once told me there was a shop in Rotherham that sold the cheaply but I can't remember the name and he's sadly passed away.
So if anyone can help me to find a cheap provider of herbs I will be most grateful.

First stop should be your local Asian shop, the one near to me sells lots of different herbs & spices in packs up to 5kg!0

Agreed but how do I find it? I live 15 miles from a town in a little village.

do you have space in a garden or even in pots to grow them for yourself? Easy enough to do from seed or simply buy "growing herbs" from the supermarket (reduced if poss) and then plant them - they'll keep you going for ages and stuff like mint, chives, parsley will over-winter just fine! Basil you'll have to do each year. Watch that mint doesn't spread though by keeping it separate or planting it in its pot.0

The ones in Aldi are reasonable. Also, make sure you are getting the best value from your supermarket e.g. my Tesco has bay leaves at about £1 for 3g in the dried herb section. However, if I make my way to the "Specialist food" section, I can get 5g for less than 50p (it's a Polish brand and written in Polish but quite obviously bay leaves). Same thing with capers (I'm talking about the standard ones not the expensive non-pareille ones) - if I go the ordinary section, they want over £1 for a small jar but in the "specialist" section I can get a jar 3 or 4 times the size for just over £1. I discovered this when checking for products on-line and these cheaper things were coming up but I couldn't find them in store. I had to go back to the website and see what food category they were in. Even then, on my next visit, I still couldn't find the cheaper capers until I discovered the "Specialist food" section was split over part of two aisles but only one aisle was signposted as Specialist Food so I hadn't found the toher stuff round the corner in the next aisle.
Would be nice to know why they can't place all the dried bay leave products together and all the jars of capers together. And why is it the cheapest option that's in a different place to the rest?0 -
If you have a spare windowsill, Asda have pots of parsley, thyme, chives, basil and corriander for 50p each. These can also be planted outside.Slimming World at target0

Hi barnsley market has a homebrew stall that sells herbs - I use loads of oregano in beef stews in the winter and I always but it from here - its about 60p a bag and I would say it has about 4 times the amount thats in the glass jars etc.
The man also sells chiili powder/curry poweer and lots of indian spices - the common ones are cheaper in the 'world' food isle at the supermarket.0 -
The best place I have found in Rotherham is Pak supermarket on Wellgate. Large quantities at reasonable prices.0
