Well, 4 years but the first 1.5-2 was back and forth and the guys at bankruptcy from abroad said that seeing as I hadn't settled until later I'd class as being within the 3 years
He said plenty of people go traveling first then settle in another country and go bankrupt; a loophole I guess.
As I'm abroad I pay those guys to act for me in the high court so don't even have to return home and stand in front of scary people
Still not sure what to do, on my credit check I have 3 companies with defaults from 2007, so the defaults will be gone in 2013; would I still owe the money?0 -
From a European country if you have been abroad for more than 6 months then you can't go bankrupt in the UKHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
The debt people have informed me 3 years from Norway; maybe because Norway isn't a member of the EU only EØS0

Did you maintain a household here during those first 2 years, were you working or doing any business here during that time, if so then there should not be a problem.
There really isnt much to the court day even if you did come back yourself the high court has much more important things to be getting on with (i presume you really just need to look at what is more cost efficient)
After 6 years some of the debts may become unenforceable (although technically you would still owe the money) providing that they dont get a CCJ in the meantime. One of the disadvantages though of being in a non EU country though is that you will need to see if there are any ways they can enforce it over there under any of there lawsHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

Just to ask you debtinfo, if you avoid been contacted by a creditor by i.e not commiunicating with them at all for 6 years would it then become unenforceable and you wouldnt have to pay them? I only ask this now because why would some people go br if you could avoid theie creditors? Many thanks0
