Sewing Machine

Hi All,
Bit of a now and then poster because I struggle to keep up!! :(
Ive been looking through all the fantastic ideas for Xmas and want to join in!

So this is where I need some help.... I would like a sewing machine but dont know what is the best type to buy! I ideally want to make sock monkeys and things (I did have a sewing machine but it didnt like the "hem" part of the socks and kept dying on me)

Do I need a more expensive one that can deal with the thickness?

I am okay sewing with them when all goes well, I can thread them etc but if something goes wrong with it I have no idea how to fix it and it kind of just gets put to one side and left there until someone comes along that can sort it!!

Anyone any advice on a good sturdy 'beginners' sewing machine that doesnt cost the earth? Ideally no more than £100 (or is that not enough?)

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!! :money:

xx

I have the Janome 220XT I only got it in January this year but it has not let me down once since and it has been really easy to learn on from someone who knew nothing at all. As long as I use the right needles (learnt that the hard way!) it can cope with very bulky things and over all I love it. Plus all the freebies they give at SMD are fabulous :) I would really recommend this sit though they have wonderful service and were always happy to answer my questions when I emailed them
