Karaoke?

My daughter is having a party for her 13th. She wants to have a karaoke going and I have no idea where to start. We have a tv that we could use to put the words up on and I have a laptop we could use but I have no idea how they work.
Can anyone please suggest a pretty idot proof way of doing this. I-e what sort of thing should I buy. I was just going to get one of those x factor type things but someone said I can buy a mic and get softward for my laptop (although the sounds pretty bad on it).
Please can anyone help?
Thanks

Pretty sure you can get free karaoke on yoosing.com or singsnap.com (or at least you used to be able to!!)
If you can hook your laptop up so the sound and pictures comes out via your TV then you would just need a wireless microphone. Im not very techy so not sure if you can get sound from your laptop through your TV or not. Someone in the techy forum will be able to help you with that bit.
If you buying a machine try and get one thats compatible with dvd or dvd/cdg (preferably not cdg only as cdg discs can be more expensive)0
