Cord Jacket gone wonky!!

A while back hubby got promoted at work, so we had to buy him some new clothes appropriate to his new position.
One of the things we bought was a lovely beige/stone coloured cord jacket, which I ordered online from NEXT.
It arrived safely, in perfect nick, and suited him, so we kept it.
Since then (oh, a good 6 months ago) it has sat in the cupboard waiting for the right moment to be worn.
Well, he wore it today, for the first and only time, and tonight I noticed that some areas of it have changed colour - they have gone from being a beigey brown to almost a yellowey brown colour.
This has happened mainly on one shoulder/arm, and a few other areas round the bottom of the jacket.
I really don't understand what has happened? it has been sitting in the wardrobe very safely all this time!
I wondered if the actual wearing of the jacket had shifted the pile and made it go a diff colour (if you see what I mean?) but it's such a strange colour (almost a mustardy yellow) and it is so uniform in the affected areas, not patchy at all that it seems unlikely.
It's clearly not a case of something having been spilt on it, or brushed against it either, it's just not a stain.
I can't send it back, so it's not about that, I'm just stumped as to whats happened, any ideas would be very welcome.
Am a bit gutted too, have waited so long to see him in some decent clobber!

I wouldnt wash it at all but first take it into a branch of Next and explain what you have already told us and ask them to send it to Customer Service for assessment. I think it is important that it isnt washed so that they can see the damage for what it is. HTH

That's a really good point. Take it back to Next. You don't need the receipt. They should be able to do something about it. TL0
