Hello all!
just wanted to share this info with you guys.
I am bagging up blackcurrants/gooseberries etc to sell at our gate so went onto mysupermarket.co.uk to get an idea of the price to charge.
The real shocker is the Tesco Blueberries on offer at half price they are still heaps dearer than the other three and Waitrose comes up very competitive indeed. More I investigate Tesco the more I loathe them!
Compare prices.... correct as of June 21st 2011
Blueberries:
Waitrose: £9.95 / £8.98 / £13.27 (organic) kg
Sainsburys: £8.00 / £13.33 / £16.67 (organic) kg
Asda: £8.89 kg
Tesco: £13.26 kg on offer usually £26.53 (standard and organic same prices)
Tesco website giving organic @ £3.99 for 125g now half price @ £1.99 so per kilo???? £31.92 or offer £15.92
and standard same prices for 225g £17.73 and £8.84 thanks sparky!
Blackberries:
Waitrose: £8.97 kg
Sainsburys: £13.33 kg
Asda: £10.00 Kg on offer usually £13.33
Tesco: £10.00 kg on offer usually £11.00

Hardly news though, they've been expensive for couple of years especially the ones from america. Saw they were £2 i think for a small container0

I agree about Waitrose, they do compare well, must say I'm surprised....a good surprise though..or it might be if I had a Waitrose anywhere near.:D
The Tesco ones are organic too by the way, (well at least the blueberries are, I didn't look at the blackberries.) I agree with what you are saying about them being on offer..but they usually are so they should just sell them at that price all the time & be done with it.0 -

On the basis of what is sold on Tesco.com, Tesco blueberries are actually £8.85/kg, as in £1.99 for a 225kg pack, which actually makes them cheaper than ASDA who are asking £2.00 for the same 225kg pack according to ASDA.com. The source of the error is quite clear; mySupermarket is showing a picture of a Tesco pack of blueberries clearly marked as '150 g'. However that's clearly just an illustration, as mySupermarket don't cite a price per kg, but rather a price per pack.
So the moral of this tale is; double check everything and don't assume; mySupermarket often gets things wrong.
Incidentally Tesco.com quote the price per kg of their blueberries as £9.95/kg, which is clearly wrong. So never trust a unit price quoted by a supermarket either. If in doubt, use a calculator.
P.S. I was too lazy to check the blackberries as well.0 -
Just interested in peoples thoughts really...... my real niggle is that Tesco are advertising as the lowest priced and that they really care about their customers. Berries are just an example DCFC79. Am not shocked at the overall prices, just the comparisons between shops.
Double the price than halve it so peeps think they are getting a good deal.
And thanks antrobus for the more detailed research. I stand corrected.total wins 2013 £5500 2014 £7500 2015 £23,900 2016 £10,650 2017 £13,040 2018 £10,620 2019 £10,115 2020 £3970.00

Lol, me too, I was just going by the prices given in the op..even too lazy to check the blueberry prices.
Definitely sensible to double check the weights/kg prices before buying..even the sel are often wrong.0 -
V confused! All I wanted to do was see what to price my blackcurrants etc at?

So Asda are 5p dearer per kilo on the basic blueberries than Tesco I think with Tesco organic being more than Waitrose but less than sainsbugs while on offer. It's a minefield.......total wins 2013 £5500 2014 £7500 2015 £23,900 2016 £10,650 2017 £13,040 2018 £10,620 2019 £10,115 2020 £3970.00

When I looked at the tesco site, a minute ago, they are clearly showing a 125g pack for £1.99.
I'm not implying you are wrong, I'm agreeing with you when you say check, don't just believe what you see.
Tesco Organic Blueberries

That's organic bluberries. I was talking blueberries. As in:
-Tesco Blueberry Class I 225G

i use mysupermarket all the time and they are usually very precise about their comparing filters. so i would go with them...0

Well obviously not in this case, as both ASDA and Tesco are selling 225g packs of blueberries, but mySupermarket thinks they're not comparable when in fact they are. (Indeed the whole debate above is based on the fact that they are comparable rather that they are not.)
I use mySupermarket quite a bit and I'd say that their 'comparability filter' is rather glitchy and full of errors. Take for example Sainsbury's Basic Shower Gel (300ml) which mySupermarket believes is comparable to Tesco's Skin Wisdom Day Spa Bath & Shower Gel - Truly Relaxing (300ml). One costs 10p, the other £4.00, or £2.66 as it's on special offer at the moment, and whilst I've never used either product, they don't strike me as being comparable in any way other than the fact that they both perform the same function.0
