Credit Union worth investigating

We're looking onto borrowing money from our local credit union. Normally you would have to save for a certain amount of time before you could borrow, but for the sake of asking we've now found out once we become a member (£1) it may be possible to borrow what we need and only pay 1% on the balance for it's lifetime!! We have also been told we may need guarantors to do this, but as it's a fairly small amount my parents are happy to step in. Just thought I'd share....
