best (for the money) shop bought quiche ...and other buffet foods....

Hello, I have a small buffet to cater for soon. I am not in good health at the moment and so regretfully I will be buying in the provisions (a first). I looked at the quiches at Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and Morrisons today (cannot pay M and S prices) and they didnt look that great and cost £1-£1.50 each. Has anyone tried these? Are they OK? Which is the nicest?

Also Lidl had some frozen "deep dish" type small pizzas (pepperoni and 4 cheese) reduced from about £1.70 to about £1-has anyone tried these? Are they worth buying?

For what its worth I bought some Tesco sausage rolls (5 reduced from £1.50 to £1)---26% meat which compared to the brands seemed OK, Aldi pork pies (and their ham) and Tesco Scotch eggs (4 for £1.50)

Can anyone advise which of these types of food are good and which are not worth spending money on? Any info much appreciated

So sorry to hear about your current state of health. Why shouldn't you buy premade ?! I hope it all goes ok

As this has dropped down the board ive moved it to the groceries board to see if you can get some input over here

Lidl do some nice pizzas, they are mozzarella and pesto or salami 2 for £1.99

I am not a fan of bought quiche but my sister likes the ones from Morrisons, says are nicer than M&S

The £5 boxes from Iceland are great for buffets, depending on how many you have coming as you get about 60 bits in each

I know you said you couldn't pay M and S prices, but their quiches are 3 for £5 at the moment, which if you're paying £1.50 for one at Tesco etc is only 50p more for 3. And they are nice.
Having said that, every penny counts so I can also vouch for Morrisons. Their cheese and onion one is yum. However, quick tip, buy them fresh, they go watery if frozen.
  • Got to agree about M&S, I used to put buffet lunches together for photoshoots, their Quiche Lorraine and Bacon and Leek are unbeatable. Not tried Morrisons, however Sains Taste the Difference Quiche Lorraine and Ham and Gruyere Cheese are pretty good. Tescos are dreadful, watery and flavourless, yuk.

Ok, I admit it, I'm a quiche addict.

Morrisons and Iceland are your friends:) My friend used to cater director lunches in the city a few years ago and she would buy loads from Iceland and put it in M&S cool bags:rotfl:
Thank you for this site Martin
The time for change has come
    Good luck for the future
  • Co Op Quiche Lorraine is rather scrummy, as is the Aldi version

Keep away from tesco quiche unless you want it running all over the plate!!
