Hi all,
I declared BR back in April 2008, was discharged in April 2009 and made my last IPA payment last month.
I've cleaned my credit files so everything shows as settled/partially settled and I have several new lines of credit that are all managed A1 .. 2 Credit cards with £1500 limits and a mobile phone contract.
I've had a Barclays Basic account since BR but now the final IPA payment has gone out I'm hunting around to see if theres a full current account out there for me .. I dont want or need an overdraft, just a full auth debit card and a chq book would be really useful sometimes.
I see that Halifax state on their pre-application blurb that they wont consider you if you have any bad stuff in the last 3 years, which I do not.
..so I apply - turned down flat. Is it worth the appeal? Are there other banks who are likely more approachable? Or just sit and wait until the 6 years is up?
Thanks!

I have tried and have been told that most will not entertain a bankrupt for at least the 6 years. I've given up looking. Who is your c/card with?BR - Dec 08
Discharged - Dec 09
Never sit down at cry against the wall, always try to climb it!0 -
I wouldnt think it was the worth appeal - I do a people that have started with a basic account at Nationwide and at Natwest and after a good few months have been offered and 'upgrade' once they have been seen operating the account well - Im not sure how long it took though.
I was only discharged in may but this week I have been able to open a Nationwide Account with a debit card, even thoguh both Co-op and barclays have previously turned me down!0 -

Barclays can be a pain, but amazed CoOp turned you down!
..I might open something with Nationwide, but the card has to be at least as good as what I currently have with Barclays to be worth it really.
Thanks!

Good to see you around again FB hope all is well??
Have you tried Natwest? they offered me a full account small o/d etc with no hassle...what you need to do though is make an appt to see one of the banks staff (halifax etc) and insist they process the application BY HAND otherwise they'll usually do the computerised stuff & computer will say NO soon as they mention BR..
good luck & hope you get sorted!
P.S...nationwide is a visa debit far as I know!We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -

Yeah Nationwide is a visa debit - I used to bank with them before my bankruptcy but they were never one of my creditors, I;ve no idea what Co-Ops problem was, they sent me the card and everything and then took it back! lol0 -

I also applied for this account...
My online application was accepted and the account was opened immediately. I was even provided with an account no & sort code instantly.
Unfortunately, I later received a letter later stating my application has been reviewed and subsequently declined - and my account was cancelled!
I was discharged over 3 years ago - so like yourself, thought I would qualify!0 -

All good thanks .. a relief to finally be free of the IPA!
Natwest were a fairly significant creditor so I'm wary about approaching them but I might just try the in person Halifax route - or even HSBC as they're very local to me and weren't a creditor at any stage. I'll get some recent printouts of my credit files and head along for a chat I think .. I can deal with a face to face rejection now I think
Cheers!
