I expect to spend some time down South come the summer holidays and rather than use my UK mobile I'm thinking of buying a cheap and cheerful mobile and putting in a Southern PAYG Sim Card. I'll only be making calls back home to see how things are.

Any recommendations as to what company, Sim, to go for? Or is it just as cheap to use my current supplier Vodafone contract 300 mins plus unlimited texts.

Probably will use texts more than voice.

Kevin

At the Balmoral Show last month the Vodafone stand was giving out leaflets called Ireland Plus

Can't find the offer on the web

To get it you need to go to a vodafone store in the North of ireland with proof of residence in the north and then its added on

    or call Belfast 028 90 275317

Apparently it allows calls made while in ROI to come out of your mins and incoming calls are free too (200 mins limit) Not sure about sending texts?

it costs £5 a month but that's a lot cheaper than the roaming costs you could get!

let us know on here if you are going to use it?

    .
  • Tesco.ie are quite cheap. I think that with meteor and vodafone you can get free roaming to UK in case you ever decide to use you phone there as well.

There is a webpage called callcosts.ie which will tell you which provider is cheapest for your usage. That might be helpful.

Quite a few of the providers will give you a lot of staged call credit if you buy a phone from them and top up by a certain amount.

There was an ad for meteor on tv the other day advertising free roaming. Will you let us know how you get on? I'm interested in this too :)
