Nasty Road Tax

Bought a new used car 2 weeks ago. the silly trainee forgot to ask for the £55 6 months road tax. So did I. Remembered a few days later and thought:j saving! (dont we all pay the taxman too much:rolleyes: )
Anyway, turns out there a bit eagle eyed and noticed and now they keep trying to get hold of me, and theyve left me a message to say theyve noticed it.
had a bit of bother with the car since buying it, after 30 minutes of driving it, had a warning light, booked it in (long story, very rude, very timewasting, not bothered as not a paying customer as under warranty type of thing, and accidentally cancelled my booking:mad: )
Anyway, do I have to pay this? Can they come back and ask 2/3 weeks later when theyve slipped up? I dont want to pay them anymore, they dont deserve it, they wont miss it!!!
The only thing is, they are paying my 1st months payment (advert stated 3 but they swindled 1?  ) and they send me a cheque (DD comes out my bank still) but are they going to send this out still if I dont pay it!
another thing, is there a standard warranty an approved dealer has to give on cars...if its broke 30 minutes after buying it, what luck have i got!
States outside "cars from 2995, 12 months warranty". I think theyve diddled me!
Any advice?
Thanks:money:

Ring Trading Standards if you think your car dealer has ripped you off. They've given me advice in the past and they practically dictated letters to me so I could send to the dealer - they said things like which parliamentary act the dealer is violating etc etc. I think you could use the tax thing as a trade-off; ie 'get my car fixed and honour your 3 monthly advert or I'll keep the tax money' - but check with trading standards first.0
