No problem! Glad I could help.

Some more information about applying to go on the electoral register if you are a 'qualifying' Commonwealth citizen that casualwalks so brilliantly pointed out!

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governme...orld/DG_073421

'The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of independent countries, nearly all of which were once British territories. There are 53 members including the United Kingdom, which co-operate in the common interests of their people.'

    http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/how_do_...g_to_vote.aspx

'To qualify, Commonwealth citizens must be resident in the UK and either have leave to remain in the UK or not require such leave.'

    And

‘You can register at any time throughout the year as the register is updated every month’.

So it looks like it takes approx 1-2 months to appear on the Electoral Roll. I love stories with happy endings

I have ILR and got my first mortgage with Halifax in 2001. I got this after living in this country for about 9 months. My husband is a British Citizen.
I remortgaged to the Nationwide with no problems. I still do not have British Citizenship and have been here nearly 11 years. Really need to get on it!

    Good luck :)
I love a bargain and saving money! I don't have any debts and mortgage repaid in 2020

Its possibly better to start a new thread David so people who can potentially help don't have to read through the other stuff.

Go to the top of this page in the right hand corner near the top it says ‘Forum jump’ and next to that ‘Go’; press go and then on the page it takes you to it says (near the top in green words) 'The mortgages and endowment board' ; just under that to the left there is a blue box which says 'new thread'; click on that to post a new thread, repeating your initial enquiry. You are likely to get a much better response if you do this.

I have ILR and had no problems getting a mortgage. It wasn't even brought up as an issue. I got my mortgage with Woolwich.
