Bank Accounts

Hi all.
Made bankrupt on 21 April. £700 overdraft was included as one of the debts in my bankruptcy. When I had a meeting with OR, he said that my bank (Santander) may close or downgrade my account. So waited to hear what Santander was going to do. Without warning, my account got blocked on Saturday. When I called telephone banking, they asked me to take ID and go into branch to get block lifted. When I got into branch, they made various phone calls and it seems that my account had been frozen. However they did advise to set up a basic account with them in the branch, so I could have tax credits, pay etc paid in. They were busy this lunchtime and I had to get back to work, so I went back at 4 o'c to set up ONLY TO BE DECLINED!! Talk about left hand don't know what the right hand is doing!! They must have fully well known, as a bankrupt, i would have been declined. So frustrating!!
My question:
Any ideas how/where I can get a basic bank account, preferably High Street, without the credit checks. I have seen some on-line, but they charge to open it, and charge fees to run the account. Like many, I'm broke and the less I have to 'give away' the better!!
Please help!!
Many thanks.
Sharon

Only two that are recommended the most on here and in martins guide is Barclays and co operative bank. You must make sure when you apply that you tell them your bankrupt so they only open the basic accounts. I have co op account and it is fine, the only thing with barclays is that whilst you are un discharged you will not get online access. Do a search lots of posts on both these accounts.

The only 2 BR friendly accounts are the Coop Cashminder and Barclays basic account. You can apply by phone for the Cashminder, link below. You also get online banking with the coop account whilst you don`t with Barclays.

forgot to add they will all run credit checks but for basic accounts these are identity checks only so as long as on electoral role and no fraud flags you should have no problems opening.0

Thank you so much guys. Have just called co-op and it's all sorted.
Thanks again.

Just a thought, on a separate issue. My daughter is about to change her bank account. She's just left uni and wants to go with the same bank as her boyfriend. She currently lives with me and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Will my bankruptcy/bad credit record affect her ability to open a new account? She has no adverse credit history.
Thanks0 -
No as long as you have no financial links then she will not be affected.:pB&SC No. 298
