Recent hair colour - I don't like it - what to do?

Last Thursday I went to the hairdresser that I have used for the last 18 months or so, to have a cut & colour.

The previous time I had booked for a colour he was ill and I had to go elsewhere at short notice. The colour turned out much the same, but out of loyalty I went back to the original guy this time.

We agreed that I would have the same colour & cut as normal and all seemed well. During the colouring process he seemed a little unsure as to whether he had made a mistake with the colour. I started to get a bit worried. It did look darker to me, but it's hard to tell until it's dry. As he was cutting my hair he remarked that he could not wait to see how the colour had turned out as it did look darker, then said he had used a shade darker to cover the "brassy blonde" that the other salon had put on.

When it was dry he was telling me that it looked good and he was pleased with it. I think I may have said, oh yes it looks fine, thanks very much. Can't remember really, but I was just thinking I hope it lightens up after a few washes.

Anyway, over the weekend I have decided that it's too dark for me and I really don't like it. I'm going to ring up and say that I am not happy with the colour and can he please do something about it for me. I am tempted to get a colour from the chemist and do it myself, but really think I should let him know that I am not happy. After all it was £48 in total, so I think I should be happy with the end result.

Do you think he should put it right and not charge me or am I being unreasonable?

You could always ring up and have a chat first and see what they say. I find it hard to be assertive when I don't think my hair looks good :o so would probably struggle to visit the salon personally

It would be in their interests to put it right though otherwise they have lost a good customer.

In the meantime, washing your hair in washing up liquid will have a bit of a lightening effect and may just be enough to minimise the stark, just dyed effect.

I am a hairdresser and if you were my client I would apologise and redo it for free. Please dont get some from the chemist esp a blonde as they can go so so wrong.

    Thanks for the replies.

I phoned the hairdresser yesterday, told him I hated my hair colour - it's too dark. He has made an appointment for me on Thursday to have some blonde highlights put in (with foils).

Let's hope all goes well! I did not ask about payment, I'm just going to assume there will be no charge.

I'm so relieved that I plucked up the courage to phone!
