I usually have a m8 who services my car etc, but with a new baby imminent he cant look at it anytime soon.

I am after the advice of the good peops of the NI Section.

Having only moved to Belfast some 6months, I havent a clue about GOOD places as off yet. Strange when you leave a wee town you've lived in all your life and know everywhere LOL.

When I searched I found some posts from a while ago 2010, but looking for some up-to-date info, obv I dont wanna be taking car to DEALER as they simply RIP you off.

So looking for a garage with a good reputation who get the job done and dont rip you off at the same time. I am sure its possible :D

Belfast Area

Many thanks in advance

i would 100% recommend DM Motors on the Beersbridge road, the owner is a good friend of mine, he has been great doing stuff on my cars, very cheap and reliable and he would always do a lot for our church bus and scout bus too.

Car was in on Fri & back same day, fast & efficient,

Full Service = Oil Change Etc

MOT Prep = Brake Test, HeadLight Alignment, Brakes Cleaned & Car needed rear spring which was fitted too.

£225 so I'll let you all decide if thats a decent price :rotfl:

    Very Friendly Garage

I use a guy called Alan McVeigh just off Ladas Drive - alanbrooke road I think it is - a friend from my sports team put me on to him 2 years ago and I have used him for a wee things that go wrong with a car over 5 year old. Very good and easy to pay - nice bunch of lads. I had my MOT last week - £120 quid all in for a full service and MOT prep and it flew through.

    Highly recommended

Have to say I think paying for MOT prep ain't the way to go if you're looking to save money.

Most garages will come up with something to fix because its in their interest to do so.

The cheapest way is just to put the car through the MOT and if it fails its just £18 for a retest and you're given a list of things that the MOT Centre says need fixed and not some padded list from a garage.

I've been doing this for 5 years with my old Astra and only had one fail (for a spring). :cool2:

that is exactly what I do too - took me a while to realise that I was paying an extra £60-70 for the mot-prep for them to say everything was OK anyway. Thought might as well chance it and pay for a retest if it needed it - at least you are only paying for the stuff that needs done then and they only retest these specific things on the retest anyway.

I do this too - makes more sense tbh.

Ava garage are great on this. They tell you the things that you must do - eg if your brakes are dodgy. Then they tell you the things you might get pulled on and you can decide whether it's worth doing ahead of time or whether you want to take the risk. Based on the Ormeau Road on Ava Avenue. Would highly recommend.

You need to book in at least a week in advance because they're always busy. Which is a good sign in my book.

Just don't try to negotiate on price. They charge a fair price for the job and they don't appreciate you trying to haggle!
