OK first things first. Merry Xmas everyone!
What are the pros and cons of these two industries?
Should a mortgage advisor get involved in mortgage underwriting and visa versa?
Like to hear from those working/worked with lenders or mortgage/financial advisors.

I am currently working for a Network, so I work with both Mortgage Underwriters and Mortgage brokers. From my point of view I think they should NOT get involved with each others jobs. Brokers are there for the applicant, and deal with finding the right mortgage. The underwriters role is really in depth, and they deal with risk and things like that. There is so much criteria which the underwriters should know that it would be a lot for the broker to deal with. The underwriters get the case to offer. Now I dont understand the role fully, but it is really complex. I think they should stay as they are.
Anything else I can help with then let me knowProud dad to Darcy.....0 -
Hi andystephens
Hope your xmas was a good one. I am late with the response but I am sure you gathered the xmas had something to do with the tardy reply
I ask the question because as a newly qualified MA, the course covered a lot about lenders criteria, the calculations, MIGs arrears, surveys, insurance etc.
I am wondering if as a MA I should engage in the mortgage underwriting sector or the mortgage advising sector.
Another twist is that I have been looking for jobs and was presented with one as a Mortgage "Consultant". The role turned out to be one of telephone support to MAs, so if I got/accepted the job I would spend all my working hours on the phone talking/advising MAs on the particular firms' "selected" products that covers "each sector" of the whole market. This is more of a Telesales role as far as I am concerned and not really what I want to indulge in.
Thanks for highlighting the roles of the two industries concerned in my original question.
BTW what's your take on Mortgage "Consultants"?0
