becoming an extra

Options
Hi there,

I just wanted some advice on a company called the extra factory.

I sent them details and photos to become an extra and they have replied saying that they are interested and want me to come to London for a photoshoot. There is no registration fee but they charge £25 on the day of photoshoot so that they can put you on their website.

I've now seen a few bad things about them saying its a scam and you dont get any work.

Has anyone else had dealings with this company or know if they are scammers or a reputable company.

Thanks

There are several threads about being an extra, this is just one if them, https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/576208
If you don't find what you want in there, try the advanced search.
If there are bad reviews anywhere for a company best to give them a wide berth.

Why not? I can imagine plenty of people want to be one! Heck, I might even try myself for a second income - thinking about it now, it seems quite a fun idea :D

Thanks for the link. It appears paying to have the opportunity to be an extra is standard; If you're serious about it, you'll need to sign up for quite a few agencies to guarantee work; and travel expenses may not be paid for. One agency that's free to register but takes a cut is 2020 casting. Agencies Filmextras and extras charge registration fees.
How much? Most extras earn between £60 and £80 per day, with overtime paid at £10 per hour. It's a good idea, though, to have to some professional (or at least professional-looking) photos taken in order to start off getting work.

I was referring to the £25 charge, I assume the company will charge the extra, any company that chargers looks offy to say the least as there is no guarantee of any work, but good way to fleece someone

thanks for the help and info. I dont mind paying £25 for photos to be done and put on website I have just always heard no reputable agency will want an upfront cash payment so thats the only thing that worries me.

I have applied to a few others that have a very good reputation I just wanted to see if anyone had dealt with this company.

I'll have a think about it

    Thanks guys
