Help on how to make a voile tie up blind

Ok firstly sorry if posting in wrong section but I thought I might get better answers here.

Basically I want to make a cover for the bathroom window which is either mint green or aqua shade to match the shower curtain and border tiles and that can be taken down to put in the washing machine once in awhile. The window is approx. 4ft by 18in.

I have the 2 hooks, a metal net/curtain rod and a wooden dowel. What I need help on is how much fabric I need to buy and a step by step easy to follow instructions on how to make the tie up blind.

My budget is tight (less then £5) at the moment so can't afford to buy a voile blind and thought buying the fabric and doing it myself might be cheaper.

  • Pop down to your local library and borrow a book.

I made some French blinds (the ones which concertina up when you pull the cord) and I got all the instructions on how to do this from a book. It made it very simple and easy to do.

All you need to do is measure the window and add about 3 inches all round for say a 1/2 inch hem (assuming you want it outside the window. Leave an extra bit on the top hem as you will turn it over to make a tube for a rod or bamboo or whatever you want to go through the top.

Once you have a window shaped rectangle, sew about a 1/4 of the way in at the top a bit of ribbon, as if you were hanging it over like a washing line vertically. A couple of stitches for the ribbon. Then do the other end. When you roll up your blind you will be able to tie it using the ribbon. The ribbon should tie round the rolled fabric.

For the pole you could use a rod or bamboo on a couple of normal hooks as this fabric is very light.
