P178 wrote:Ok everyone its me OT again.
I did tell the girl when she got home this after noon. And there was lot of shouting and tears. I felt just awful seeing her cry because of my stupid mistake.I told her I will pay for a new phone and then she was ok. I was going to get one from Amazon for £79.99 but its on 02 network and it will take few days to get it here then unlocking. There is one at phone's 4U shop for £89.99. If anyone finds nokia 6111 cheaper then that on Orange network please Send me a PM. I don't think I ever bought anything for me even for £50 .Its hurts when you know how hard you have to work to earn that money. This will be a very good lesson for me in future not to do things in rush.
Thank you everyone for being so kind. Some of your post did make me laugh. Here in England I don't like the cold weather much but I like the people.I been here for 10 years and I can't believe how nice people are here in England. It doesn't matter if you are poor or rich they still talk to you and kind to you.And now,I think I should shut up.
If you have a nectar card you get 150 points through car phone warehouse for that phone PAYG £89.95 with £10 airtime and free delivery, looks like they have it on orange and a few others.
Have you checked wether the original phone still works though? Or checked with her mum? its almost bound to be covered under the house contents insurance.0 -
I'm really shocked that they are letting you pay for it. I don't want to make assumptions about the circumstances of your employer but If I was in a privileged position where I could pay someone to do my housekeeping I would in no way expect them to fork out of their small wage for something that was damaged in this way. Especially as it was, to a degree, the girl's own negligence but obviously in the end, just an unfortunate accident.
When I was a cleaner I broke an expensive ornament with a hoover attachment which was arguably in a very precarious ill-considered place (on one of those narrow radiator shelves that aren't attached to the wall) I would have been absolutely horrified if the guy had made me pay for it.
I feel really sorry that your honesty has resulted in you being punished like this. It was nice that you offered but it should never have been accepted.0 -

So there Baileys! (As if they care, but I felt better!))

The phone still doesn't work. I will ask my employer about the house contents insurance and see what she says. I do have £70 Boots vouchers but don't think Boots sale Mobile phones. I think I should just go and buy one phone ASP so I can forget about it.It is upsetting me thinking what I have done. I haven't done much work today at all.If you want something very much, let it go free.If it comes back to you,it is yours forever. If it doesn't it was never yours to begin wih.0 -
Hun, have you spoken to your employer and explained? You have been really honest here and the most I would imagine would be fair to pay would be half or something? I know a family who has a live in nanny who helps with the housework and cooking and stuff, they aren't all that well off so I'm not assuming your employer is necessarily rich but you should explain that its a lot of money for you to pay, at the very least they could buy their daughter a new phone and take a small amount out of your wages each week to cover it?? chin up, it wasnt your fault you were only trying to be helpful!!Official DFW Nerd 2100

Have just come on to thread and totally agree Fidget....my son is 12 and he knows if he doesn't look after something and it gets damaged its totally HIS fault!
If your employers have a conscience then they will not allow you to be out of pocket for something that is not your fault.0 -

I also wasn't suggesting that the people are necessarily rich only that in most cases the employee is usually in a far less advantaged position than the employer. If I were the employer in this situation and I couldn't afford to replace it I would rather my kid have either a cheapy phone or no phone than make the employee pay. Especially at this time of year. I managed without a phone until I was 28!
Sorry for perpetuating this off topic thread but I felt really sad about this and quite incensed!!!0 -

Sorry fidget, I didnt mean that you implied that, only that some people may assume they were rich, I agree as I did mean the same as you tho that they are probably a darn site better off than the OP of this topic, I feel pretty sad about this too, its one of those horrid things that is a shame all round but all in all the outcome needs to be fair to the OP as it was hardly intentional!Official DFW Nerd 2100 -
Well I was pleasantly surprised to log onto my much neglected pigsback account and discover my points were on 900 points - so have decided to religiously click as much as possible in order to get some Boots vouchers for Christmas 2007.
Thanks as always to the regulars on here who take the time to post.
